After declaring the summer vacation in advance, the government has also advised the Labour and Employment Department to shift the outdoor workers’ schedules away from peak afternoon hours - 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Working hours under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) have also been restricted from 12 noon to 3 p.m. during the heat wave conditions. Similarly, the Transport Department and the TSRTC were directed to change the bus service timings during the peak hours - 12 noon to 4 p.m. in view of the sweltering heat and for safe transportation.
