The West Bengal Panchayat and Rural Development Department has decided to set up more kilns to produce bricks from fly ash. The units are non-polluting and require less space than the traditional kilns. Also, the bricks have been tested by IIT Kharagpur and National Test House, and have been found to be stronger than traditional bricks. New brick kilns are coming up at Andal in Paschim Bardhaman district, at Sagardighi in Murshidabad district, at Bakreshwar in Birbhum district and at three places in Nadia district. Kilns to manufacture bricks made from fly ash were first set up two years ago.
